HISTORY
Thousands of years ago all of the Northern dogs were crossbred with arctic wolves.  Over time, careful breeding and
maintenance of pure bloodlines, the " wolf" was bred out of the dogs.  Siberian Huskies are a pure and very ancient
lineage of dog that came from Siberia dating back 4000 years or more.  The Chukchi, an ancient Siberian hunting
people developed the Siberian breed using them originally for hunting their main source of food, the Husky added to
reindeer, using them to haul heavy loads and started to use the Husky for herding and developing their dogs more
as the Husky.

Delivery of anti-toxin to prevent further spread of the disease, but because of severe weather conditions, no
transportation could be made by air.  The nearest supply of serum was in Anchorage, Alaska, and the rail could only
The "GREAT SERUM RUN" is the story of an outbreak of diphtheria in Nome, Alaska in 1925.  They needed the run
as far as Nenana leaving over 650 miles to reach Nome.  The only way to cover the distance was to use teams of
sled dogs.  In only five and a half days the relay teams reach Nome with the serum saving lives from dying of the
disease.  

The Siberian husky dog is a medium sized dog, growing in height for males 21 to 23.5 inches and females 20 to 22
inches.  Their weight ranges from 46 to 60 pounds for males and 35 to 50 pounds for females.  This breed of dog
has a double coat, which is a soft dense undercoat, with an outer coat of guard hair.  The Siberian will blow their
coat at least once a year, mainly in the spring.  The coats of  a Husky can come in many different colors and
combinations.  A few are black and white, grey and white, red and white, sable and white, agouti and white, and of
course solid white.  Eye color of the Siberian may be of any color-brown, blue, or part blue and part brown all in one
eye, green or amber.  They can have bi-eyes(one of each color) as well.
